Whatsapp Video Calls - Hello LDR!!

Today I made my first Whatsapp video call and I am very very excited!!! Yayyy.... Mark Zuckerberg just stepped in and changed the game..

One of the first things I thought about was that Long Distance Relationships (LDR) don't have to be that tedious or expensive any more!!

Thank you Skype, Whatsapp, Facetime etc!!

I remember telling a great guy once that I couldn't explore a relationship with him because the distance was a big NO NO! Been there, done that, threw away the t-shirt! The hassle and the stress of the distance was just too much (and that's in addition to other things that crop up in a relationship!)

I remember being in an LDR and as good as it was, I would have definitely preferred being in the same city with him. For one, it was quite expensive managing the travels (more on him that me, kudos to him!), communication was mainly audio so it gave room for many gaps to be filled by an overactive mind (me), as much as we talked/chatted etc, it wasn't the same as being in the same room/place, doing things together.

Sometimes, you just review it and you wonder if it is worth the stress!

Thank God some people have been able to manage it and turn it round to be very beautiful!

If you are currently in a long distance relationships, here are some things that could help:

1. Be very open in your communication. Be as interactive as possible.

2. Be tolerant - More than ever, you put into action these qualities of love that are highlighted in 1Cor 13 - "Love always trusts, always hopes (for the best), always perseveres!"

3. Look for creative ways to communicate with each other without suffocating each other!

4. As much as possible, plan visits and trips (in groups!). Make it a priority to see regularly as much as your finance allows you!

5.  Use technology to the best of your relationship - Whatsapp video calls, Facetime, Whatsapp chats, DM each other on Instagram or Twitter.. Make it as exciting and dynamic as possible.

6. Set out specific 'virtual date' times. Eat dinner together, go see a movie and talk about it. Try to cultivate a habit of enjoying activities together and talking about it, albeit remotely.

7. Make the time spent together (when you do see count). Don't spend it having petty fights and disagreements.

8. Forgive quickly, let things go!

9. I know I've mentioned this before but - TRUST, TRUST, TRUST!!

10. The summary of the above is communication - in a variety of ways! One of the biggest builders or killers of long distance relationships is a lack of friendship and communication.

It's very possible, you can thrive LDR-style, put in the work required and enjoy every step of the way!

Love, Life & Lightchild - Lessons I've Learnt from my Parents' Marriage

I am blessed to have my parents (both) together and still going strong after more than 35 years of marriage! How they have done it, I don’t know (this is where the Christianese in me will come out, to say “It is by God’s grace”, which is absolutely true).

I remember vividly one Summer time, my mum came visiting and usually when she comes into town, she stays at my sister’s house (you know, it’s better to stay in a family home than in a bachelor’s apartment - except you don’t mind starving and probably eating some sort of unbalanced meal of solely carbs, no proteins and oils. Just joking). So she comes into my apartment and she’s like "hmmm.. this house is so masculine! It’s just Black and White and Blue, no colour, no flowers, no pictures, no nothing." And I’m thinking to myself, ermm, excuse me mother, White is a colour, so also is Black and Blue! She then went on to say, if I had a 'lady friend' now, there would be more life in the house.

That got me thinking for a bit, not that she was encouraging or saying for me to co-habit, but she inferred that having a 'lady friend' put some feminine touch into my apartment would make it look more homely. 

That moment your mum asks about a 'Lady friend' *sips tea*

Love, Life & Lightchild - Time to Say Goodbye

When I read the topic, I thought to myself - Goodbye already??  

Thankfully, it wasn't goodbye to Love, Life & Lightchild.. It was more like opening the door for you to exit a relationship that is going nowhere.... Ladies and gentlemen, it's reality check time!

One common thing that some of us love to do, even without knowing that we are doing it, is hoarding, holding on to things, sometimes too much, to our detriment. Sometimes we hold on to certain relationships for different reasons, maybe for fear of starting over, or not finding someone better (can’t be bothered to go through the whole process of waiting and finding) or thinking that we are running out of time and there’s probably no other one better out there, or the new reason - "Every relationship has its beauty and its burden, at least I have this one, I’ll endure and manage it".

When is it possibly time to say goodbye, I’m gettin’ outta ‘ere to that relationship that’s not working?

This week's Love, Life and Lightchild is probably my favourite so far... Apart from the fact that it came in really early (iKid.. or maybe not), it's an absolutely fantastic read... Enjoy!

I am a sucker for a good, well planned out, love-filled, romantic wedding service. Most especially the declaration of vows between the couple. Sometimes I make a joke (which actually may not be a joke) when I see how couples say their vows on their day. Priest says, “Repeat after me": Husband starts repeating his vows after the priest, supposedly to his bride, but is looking at the priest as he recites the vows. (If you think I’m joking, watch carefully for this part at the next service you attend).
And the bride does the same too.. smh.. and I think to myself, are they getting married to the Priest? #rantover..

Nope, the Priest is not part of the 3-fold chord! :-D

Break Loose!!

It's time to break loose!

A Beautiful Exchange - God ALWAYS Does Better

I have met a number of wonderful people who unfortunately remain in a relationship that is clearly not good enough or draining, because of the fear of the unknown - Can I get better? What if I never meet someone else? Time is not on my side!

For others, it might be time to call time on that relationship because being in it means compromising and day by day it's become even more uncomfortable as you're trying to reconcile your belief with the demands of the relationship.

This week's Vlog looks at the beautiful exchange that we have in God. This takes a great measure of faith and trust in God that He can sort you out. I hope that we will never forget that God has an excellent track record of being faithful.

Lay down your little for His 'more than enough'

As I write this, I am reminded of the season we are in - Easter. This is a special reminder of the most beautiful exchange ever! Our sin and shame for forgiveness and eternal life, made possible by the death on the cross and the blood of Jesus! If you haven't taken up this wonderful gift, now more than ever is a good time. The price has been paid, it can only be better.. Indeed the best life you could ever imagine. I did it and it's the best decision I  have ever and could ever have made...
