Chronicles of Sebastian: Story Story... Precious Guidance in Nigeria (Video post!)

Have you ever wondered how as Christians we are supposed to know where to go next? How does this "guidance" thing exactly work? Well, I don't have a clear-cut answer for that complex question. What I do have are some stories of how I was led into some interesting situations while I was in Nigeria. To tell these stories properly, I decided to move away from my usual lists and to shoot a short video instead:

Some might think it's all coincidental, but I leave the interpretation up to you! :-) Please leave a comment if you have your own stories to tell or if you want to debate some issues raised.

If you were unable to watch the video or in case you prefer the "written Sabba", don't worry: Next week's post will include some more text!

Until then - all the best :)
Sabba-Sabba

PS: Apart from Germany, I'll cross my fingers for Nigeria in the world cup :-)

***************************************************

Oh this has got to be one of my favourite Sabba posts.. I loved being able to relate with him on a  more 'real' level lol.. Almost like being 'properly properly' introduced to the man called Sebastian.. He's even funnier in person than his writings (and that's a tough one to beat!).. And very clever too! (Now we have a video post Sebs, next up is meeting in person! I think it will be an absolute hit! I would probably laugh till I cry!)
Also, it got me thinking about the many 'coincidences' that are actually God orchestrating events in our favour. It's beautiful when you look back and think about how God brought it to pass..As in my God is just too 'on point'.. He brings people our way just when we need them, He answers our prayers in so many diverse ways that we can't put Him in 'a box', His ways are so different from ours yet the results so much better than what we imagined :-)
I remember how He introduced me to Sabba HERE and I can't but be amazed and be grateful for Him being ever so mindful of us all - Thank You Jesus!

*****************************************************

PS If you missed the very end of the video (like I almost did, Sebs gives a very important announcement :-( ... Let me know what you think) xx

  1. This is awesome Sebastian. I really enjoyed hearing your voice and your story.

I can completely relate and totally agree with you on how God can bring people together through unique/special/ironic situation and experience the beautiful, innocent bonding that takes place as a result. These relationships are so pure and beautiful. I can relate to that so much. God bless you!

  2. Highly Favored, wow your words perfectly summarize what I wanted to say - I should have used your words in my conclusion - God brings people together through unique / ironic situations, which often result in unique and innocent relationships. Thank God you can relate!

Thank you very much for listening and do have a wonderful day :)

  3. Thanks again Saba Saba for this wonderful post. It is so so true. God says in His word, if we acknowledge Him in all our ways, He will direct our paths. Certainly, there is no accident (mistake) with God. He also says, "Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying "This is the way, walk in it, whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the lest". We may not hear the audible voice of God when He is directing us but He assures us that if we are in tune with Him, He will never leave us on our own. Praise God!!

  4. Sorry Sebastian, all I could think of was how cute you are and how accurate your description of the little details in the Nigerian culture is. Please show your fine face more often. Chei! Fine boy! Lol :D

  6. @Anonymous: All I can say is a resounding Amen! “if we are in tune with Him, He will never leave us on our own" - exactly :)

@Maggieola: Well well, for a man, "cute" might not be the perfect compliment ;) But thanks anyway, I guess I know what you mean, lol. my sisters keep calling me cute, although i tell them I'm 24 already - no use ;)
Fine boy, fine girl, ha Nigerians love to say this.
I am afraid you won't see my face very often anymore, as I will finish the series next week. :( But you'll see another video (including me dancing for 3 secs), I promise :D

@Ayo: Ha, this is not fair, I can see you campaigning to renounce my decision ;) Let me counter you with your own "weapon" - Scripture: "Your yes be a yes, your no..." :D

By the way, lovely additions to the post. Thanks very much. I also hope to meet you in person, by the grace of God it will be possible one day! Unfortunately, I can't be "beamed" like Philip in Acts 8 :(
But we should be thankful for what we have, this kind of community wouldn't have been possible just 20 years ago :)

  7. Lol. Nice seeing him speak. You get to know people better this way. Now, I know he looks more mature than in pictures, and he has R-factor, lol.

The prayer part was just funny, but that is how we do it here in Nigeria o.

Oooh, I love the way he found you. So sweet. And now, we are all enjoying him and his posts.

Sabs, please, we want more video posts.

I actually don't believe in coincidences. I thing all things end up working together, in the end.

As an aside, I am not sure the video's beginning soundtrack is kinda appropriate. Just my own opinion sha.

  8. @ilola!i guess the soundtrack was just to grab our attention and be a sort of intro to the post.
@sabba awwww!we love you too.i spent the first one minute studying your face and accent but eventually got engrossed in your very descriptive way of speaking.it was like I was there when it all happened.
Abeg oh!what do you mean your final post next week?Do you mean final before you start another series?or Final final!I hope not.i sincerely hope not.

  9. Great message there Sebastian, things don't just happen God plans every little detail in our lives. I remember this one time I had gone to buy some medicine that had been prescribed for me, I went by this small pharmacy, I ignored saying to myself " I don't think they have what I need". I proceeded to one of the big pharmacies in town and surprisingly they didn't have the medicine, I went to two other big pharmacies and they too didn't have the medicine, finally I decided to go to that small pharmacy I had ignored. I walked in and there was this old lady who had a small girl with her, she was slowly counting some coins after she finished she handed the money to the attendant who after counting the money told her it wasn't enough to buy what she needed. She was short of only a small amount of money, she tried begging the attendant but he said he couldn't help her.Eventually she decided to walk out. I followed her outside, said hello, and gave her the extra money she needed, she went back in and was able to buy her medicine. After she left I handed over my prescription and alas! that small pharmacy that I had put off had the medicine that I needed. In my heart I knew that everything day was planned by God.
Sorry for the long comment :)

  10. @Sebs, Hahaha.. You have used a very good 'weapon'.. My hands are tied now lol. Indeed, thank God for technology.. I'm sure I relate with you more than a number of people I have met or have the opportunity to see regularly. God bless you richly.. You have been a HUGE blessing :-)
@ilola! haha.. The song actually made me smile because it's one of my favourite Nigerian songs and I love Banky W :-) .. That qualifies it for me lol
@Anonymous, abeg help m ask him oh! (ok, last campaign Sebs lol)
@Sharon, Wow! Thank you so much for sharing that.. God is just so amazing. God bless you for meeting the need of that woman.. It's always a great privilege to be part of God's miracle plan :-)

  11. This reminds me of when I went to collect my callup letter from my University.i was very stressed as I came from Abuja where I was doing clearance for my call to bar which was the next week.i got the call up letter,i had been posted to Kano which wasn't a surprise as the person who was supposed to help me get posted to the southwest said she was unable to do it.
So I was in the bus headed to Ibadan,i was at the back of the bus when I noticed a fracas. The lady in front of me was complaining that the seat of the man in front of her was disturbing her legs,it almost turned into a fight, then he came to sit beside me.We got talking and I told him I had just been posted to to kano and I was sad about it.He gave me the number of one of the ogas in Abuja to call.Luckily I was heading back to Abuja from Ibadan the next day.
I went to see the man and when I left camp (I had to do the orientation camp in Kano) I was posted to Ibadan as I wanted.
I was so happy, and to think that if I hadn't being in that bus that day,or the fight hadn't happened,or the man hadn't talked to me,i wouldn't have met that man who is now a close family friend.
Things like that make me realise God had a plan. There are no coincidences in life.Everytin that seems random actually has a purpose.

  12. Final post next week?! Oh no! Been a silent reader and have been loving each of Sebastian's write up.

Absolutely loved the way Sebastian found this blog. God indeed does lead and direct our steps.

You sound really sweet. God Bless you.

  13. Sharon and Anonymous3, thank you so much for sharing these awesome testimonies. There are no coincidences in life, yes - thank God for the uniqueness in the way he guides each and everyone of us :)

@Iola: Inappropriate? Okay I guess maybe it's used for love songs. Well let's say it's for my love for God lol
More mature? Hehe a nice way to say I am old.
R-Factor, oh yes, I just can't get this sound right, no matter how hard I try. When I say right, it sounds like white :(
Oh I love the prayer part so much. You know these guys recorded the prayer so that they can use the recording for a drama performance.
Thx for your comment and for always stopping by! :)

@Anonymous2 + Ada: That is very kind of you, thank you very much. You know, thinking about the seasons I mentioned in one of the posts, I just think this "chronicles-season" is slowly getting to an end. Before I start to bore you guys with too many repetitions, I thought "better leave now".
I honestly said most of the things I wanted to say; sure I could go on with many more details, mini-lessons, travel stories, I could introduce you to more friends etc., but I doubt that would be that beneficial. Considering the fact that I only stayed in Nigeria for one semester, I doubt I have the authority to write novels or hundreds of posts, it just wouldn't be right. Yet I will go into prayer again to think some more about this issue/decision.

I won't just disappear though, I'm sure I will stop by every now and then. I love this community too much :)

  14. I so awwwwed when I got to how you met Ayo.. God does order our steps, He really does.
And final post? Hope that doesn't mean last last last post? Abeg o!

  15. I enjoyed the blog. It was emotional though, hope this isn't your last post, Sebastien? I do believe God orders our steps. Sometimes, he takes us round the circle for us to get back to the beginning better, stronger and even more qualified. I am a proof of that.

    Please visit www.girlane.com. Thanks!

P.S: Ayo! you never gave me the pictures of how you rocked your giveaway. Still waiting :)
